Fresh or Freezing Flexible Learning Toolbox

The planning, storyboarding and development of the Australian Government funded toolbox for the Refrigeration Industry. The toolbox provides a comprehensive online program for Australian institutions to use in their teaching with access to a range of SCORM compliant learning objects - http://toolboxes.flexiblelearning.net.au/index.htm.

The toolbox features a range of directed and constructivist animations which are presented in an intuitive and SCORM compliant interface. The toolbox has been developed in partnership with the Sunshine Coast TAFE.

South Australia Government SASE Animation Project

In partnership with Flinders University, Mediasphere has developed a suite of process based animated learning activities that form part of a SASE trial for the South Australian Education Department. The animated objects provide a constructivist learning approach and student inputs are recorded into a database with automated reports for teachers - www.flinders.edu.au

The learning objects are delivered pre-loaded onto USB keys. The keys have been set up with an XML database that automatically records and generates reports based on student input.

SunWater Staff Induction Portal

As part of the project to build SunWater's new online staff Induction program, Mediasphere developed a suite of videos and animations to reflect the Sunwater workplace policies and procedures www.sunwater.com.au

PCYC Staff Induction Portal

Mediasphere created the Staff Induction Portal on the Powerhouse LMS and provided the organisation with a suite of animations and simulations to support the Evacuation and Fire Safety Course

Queensland Government - Education Queensland International

Mediasphere in partnership with Education Queensland International has developed a bank of over 100 language focused animations that form an online pre-departure and arrival course for international students studying in Queensland government schools

The Role of Animation in e-Learning

Animated learning and assessment objects in an online course allow the user to interact with the content to optimise their learning.  

The user is typically guided through a series of screens that provide a basis for the instruction. They are then immersed in a self-paced environment to construct meaning from that content through consolidation and self-assessment.

This part of the learning object may be repeated as often as is required by the learner until they feel confident enough to complete the summative assessment tasks to validate and record their knowledge in the database. (Learn more about Mediasphere’s assessment services)

Mediasphere’s well constructed learning objects break down the content into useable chunks that highlight the key aspects of the information.  This kind of directed learning ensures the instruction is clear and well defined and maps directly to the learning outcomes in the course.

Mediasphere recommend that the learning objects present animation, video and audio to engage the user through key topics and thus cater for a range of learning styles. Our online courses usually feature two types of learning objects; directed and constructivist.

  • Directed learning objects provide the user with information on a topic area through a series of pages, that feature multimedia assets which have been designed to modularise the learning. The user has the option to replay these animated assets to consolidate their understanding. The objects are self-paced with the student deciding when to progress to the next aligned concept.
  • Constructivist learning objects allow the user to engage with the information at a higher level so they are then able to make judgments and choices depending on their understanding of the data presented. For instance a user may be presented with a case study and be able to respond in a variety of ways. The learning object would then provide immediate feedback to help consolidate the learning or provide learning prompts to assist the user to build their knowledge in key concept.
